A Closer Look at T-Mobile’s Plans and Pricing

Essentials Choice 55 for Light Mobile Users

The Essentials Choice 55 plan is the most budget-friendly T-Mobile package for older adults. Prices start at $50 per month for a single-line plan or $70 per month when you sign up for two lines ($35 per line). However, you can shave $5 per line, per month off your premium by enrolling in AutoPay. Like the Experience More and Experience Beyond plans (see below), pricing for the Essentials Choice 55 package doesn’t include taxes or fees. Still, T-Mobile’s stripped-down entry-level plan is quite a deal. For comparison, AT&T’s Unlimited 55+ plan costs $60 per month for one line (and you’re eligible only if you live in Florida), so T-Mobile will definitely save you money.

The account holder is the only person who needs to be 55 or older on your plan. That means you can include one additional family member of any age on your plan, so even more people can save.

The Essentials Choice 55 plan comes with:

  • SD streaming
  • Unlimited 3G mobile hotspot data
  • Unlimited data in Mexico and Canada (speeds up to 128 Kbps)
  • Unlimited texting in over 215 countries

Unsure if the Essentials Choice 55 plan is enough for you? If streaming and picture quality are important to you or you’re on the go a lot, you may prefer one of the Experience plans. Your data is technically unlimited with your Essentials Choice package, but you may see slower-than-average speeds once you hit 50 GB.

In the past, we would’ve recommended one of the higher-tier T-Mobile 55-plus plans for whole families, since the Essentials Choice 55 plan was limited to just two lines. Now, however, all 55-plus plans have a maximum of two lines. If you want to add more people to your plan, you may be better off with a carrier that offers more lines, such as Consumer Cellular or Mint Mobile. If you just need one or two lines, however, any of the three 55-plus plans from T-Mobile offer excellent value and savings.

Did You Know?

Did You Know? T-Mobile’s Experience More With 55+ Savings and Experience Beyond With 55+ Savings offer a free year of AAA membership! That adds up to $65 in savings every year for the basic membership.

Experience More With 55+ Savings Plan for Existing Customers

Starting at $75 for one line and $110 monthly for two lines (or $70 and $100 with AutoPay enabled), the Experience More With 55+ Savings plan is the second most expensive T-Mobile plan, just behind the Experience Beyond With 55+ Savings plan. In addition to many big upgrades from the Essentials Choice 55 plan, the Experience More With 55+ Savings plan has two major selling points that set it apart from T-Mobile’s other plans:

  1. Experience More With 55+ Savings subscribers can upgrade to a new device every two years, as opposed to Essentials Choice 55, which offers no upgrade deals.
  2. You’ll have access to all the same deals that new customers get when you upgrade your phone.

The Experience More With 55+ Savings plan includes:

  • Five-year price guarantee
  • Unlimited premium data
  • 4K UHD streaming quality
  • 50 GB of high-speed hotspot data and unlimited 3G
  • Unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi and text
  • 15 GB of high-speed data in Canada and Mexico and unlimited data at reduced speeds
  • Unlimited texts and data in over 215 countries, with up to 5 GB of high-speed data
  • Free Netflix Standard plan (with ads)
  • Free Apple TV+ plan

This is a great option if you want to upgrade to the latest device with no strings attached. It features unlimited premium data like the Beyond plan, and almost as many perks. You’ll have a good amount of data, in-flight Wi-Fi, streaming and texting, whether you’re at home, on the go or even in the air.

Experience Beyond With 55+ Savings for Existing Customers and New Phone Lovers

The Experience Beyond With 55+ Savings plan is T-Mobile’s most expensive 55+ plan. It starts at $90 a month for one line and goes up to $140 for two lines ($85 and $130 with AutoPay). It’s a minor upgrade from the standard Experience More With 55+ Savings plan, offering almost all the same features and perks. It’s similar to the Experience More plan, but the main appeal is the ability to upgrade your phone every year as long as you’ve paid off 50 percent of the cost and the device is in good condition after you’ve owned it for at least six months.

» Find Your Next Phone: Best Smartphones for Seniors

The Experience Beyond With 55+ Savings plan includes:

  • Five-year price guarantee
  • Unlimited premium data
  • 4K UHD streaming quality
  • 250 GB of high-speed hotspot data and unlimited data at 600 Kbps
  • Unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi and text
  • Satellite service beginning in mid-2025
  • Watch and tablet lines for just $5 per month
  • 30 GB of high-speed data in Canada and Mexico, and then unlimited data at 256 Kbps
  • Unlimited texts and data in over 215 countries, with up to 15 GB of high-speed data
  • Free Netflix plan with ads
  • Free Apple TV+ plan
  • Free Hulu plan

The Experience Beyond With 55+ Savings plan is the cream of the crop when it comes to T-Mobile’s 55-plus plans. Like Experience More, Beyond offers premium data, high streaming quality and excellent benefits. On top of that, you can get the newest phones available without needing to include an additional phone line or fulfill some other requirements that most providers ask of existing customers. They’re even giving planholders the opportunity to participate in a Starlink beta trial, which goes into effect in July 2025. It will use satellites to potentially expand coverage to areas that previously wouldn’t have had a T-Mobile signal.1 If you love being on your phone, travel a lot or simply want the best T-Mobile has to offer, this is the plan for you.

How to Get the Best Deal With T-Mobile

T-Mobile’s 55-plus plans offer excellent value. That’s at least what T-Mobile had in mind when they launched a trio of senior-friendly cell phone plans aimed at providing better mobile experiences and smarter phones, rather than milking dollars from the generation who invented the internet.

T-Mobile then took it a step further in early 2021, when they began including Netflix and unlimited data in their 55-plus plans. You can also now add up to two lines per account, which means couples, family members or roommates could be on the same plan. Even better, the more lines you add, the less expensive each line becomes.

When it comes to senior savings, T-Mobile is built for it. If you’re looking for one-time seasonal deals, however, your best bet is to download the T-Mobile Tuesdays app. Every Tuesday, as the name implies, T-Mobile announces new deals and promotions to enhance your T-Mobile experience even further.

Did You Know?

Did You Know? T-Mobile also offers home internet. Right now, you can score internet rates of $50 per month when ordering online. Visit our T-Mobile internet review to learn more.

The Best T-Mobile Cell Phones for Seniors

We’ve tested a few of T-Mobile’s senior-friendly smartphones, and two of our favorites are the iPhone SE and T-Mobile’s in-house Revvl 7 5G.

Just keep in mind that you don’t need to buy a new phone to switch to T-Mobile. Like Mint Mobile’s budget prepaid plans and Xfinity Mobile’s pay-as-you-go packages, T-Mobile is now fully on board with the idea of new customers bringing their own phones. If you decide to bring your own phone, visit the T-Mobile website first and run your make and model through their phone compatibility checker to see if it’s possible.

Testing out the iPhone SE

Testing the iPhone SE.

In the old days, “senior” phones had large buttons and no touch screen. These days, practically any phone can be adapted for accessibility if needed, so style and the latest tech are major considerations for older buyers too. The iPhone SE offers the best of both worlds.

The SE doesn’t have as big a screen as some newer iPhones, but it’s the SE’s ease of use — swiping is low impact for arthritis sufferers — that makes it one of our top-ranked phones for older adults. At $17.92 per month for 24 months with no down payment, it’s also ideal for anyone on a budget. T-Mobile’s 55-plus plans include a five-year price guarantee, so you don’t have to worry about unexpected price changes for several years.

Other benefits of the SE include Apple’s always great accessibility features (zoom, magnification, text-to-speech and Touch ID). If you bank via your phone or regularly access apps that require a password, Touch ID will save you tons of time and keep your personal info more secure.

T-Mobile Revvl 7 5G

REVVL 7 5G

REVVL 7 5G

The more time we spend on our phones — and we’re spending more time than ever these days2 — the quicker our eyes become fatigued. The fact that some smartphones were designed to be as compact as possible doesn’t help. Smaller screen size also equals more eye strain. That is one reason the eye-friendly Revvl 7 5G, with its super large 6.5-inch FHD+ display, is a great pick for older adults who like stylish phones but don’t want to trade their eyesight for the privilege.

Saving Alert:

Saving Alert: Right now, you can qualify for a free smartphone when you add a new T-Mobile line or trade in an eligible device.

At $199.99, the Revvl 7 5G is also a very budget-friendly option that doesn’t skimp on essential features. You get great battery life (around 37 hours of talk time), plenty of storage (128 GB), and fingerprint and face ID unlock. Apple is still the king of accessibility, but the Revvl 7 5G comes with text-to-speech and is fully hearing aid–compatible.

How Does T-Mobile Compare to Other Phone Carriers?

T-Mobile is passionate about serving older adults. So much so that former T-Mobile CEO John Legere gave a pretty awesome speech about how most carriers patronize adults ages 55 and over with their jacked-up prices and dumbed-down features. Legere rightly pointed out that most older adults actually do want a smartphone,3 and not a “brick with large numbers.” So how do competing brands hold up against T-Mobile’s challenge?

T-Mobile vs. Verizon

Verizon’s Unlimited 55+ plan is designed for older adults, but it’s available only to Florida residents, making it inaccessible to most U.S. residents. On the other hand, T-Mobile’s 55-plus plans are available in all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. If you happen to reside in Florida, Verizon’s Unlimited 55+ plan offers unlimited calling, texting and data for $62 per month (one line only) or $84 per month for two lines ($42 per line), which is significantly more expensive than T-Mobile’s entry-level plan.

T-Mobile vs. AT&T

As with Verizon, AT&T’s 55-plus plan is also restricted to Florida residents. And similar to Verizon, AT&T’s entry-level plan starts at $60 per month (single line only) or $80 per month for two lines ($40 per line). This is, however, considerably cheaper than T-Mobile’s Experience Beyond plan.

AT&T does offer additional discounts to older adults with an AARP membership, including $10 off per line each month with their Premium plan.

Our Methodology

How We Researched T-Mobile’s Pricing and Value

Our tech team spent more than 100 hours researching T-Mobile’s latest senior phone plans, device offerings and deals. Here’s what our research process looked like:

  1. We scoured T-Mobile’s website to find the latest information about each of their senior phone plans. If something was unclear or we wanted to confirm a certain deal or price, we called T-Mobile’s support team for assistance.
  2. Our team evaluated the ease of signing up for a senior phone plan and setting up a new phone with T-Mobile.
  3. We compared T-Mobile’s current prices and offerings to those offered by other national carriers.
  4. We tried the Apple SE and Revvl 7 5G using each of the three plans available to older adults. We tested speeds in various areas and settings, ensuring that each plan offered ample dependability for the price.

The Factors We Used to Evaluate T-Mobile

T-Mobile is one of the most popular mobile carriers in the country. To ensure that older adults are getting the most bang for their buck with one of T-Mobile’s Unlimited 55+ plans, we considered the following factors during our research and testing process:

  • Pricing: Pricing is one of the biggest factors we consider with any phone carrier, and T-Mobile offers some of the lowest prices of any major carrier in the U.S. Couples can get especially good deals if they sign up for two lines.
  • Plan variety: Sometimes simple is better, and T-Mobile keeps things pretty simple with its 55+ Unlimited phone plans. If you just want the basics, Essentials Choice 55 is great, but if you want all the bells and whistles, you can choose between Experience More and Experience Beyond.
  • Network size: We like to see networks that cover most of the country, and T-Mobile checks that box with one of the largest 5G networks. We also like that T-Mobile offers limited international coverage, and the carrier has a plan in place for expanded coverage in underserved areas via Starlink satellites.
  • Plan perks: T-Mobile offers a variety of perks, particularly the Experience plans. If you’re a fan of streaming or you travel a lot, you can get the most value out of Experience More or Experience Beyond. If you just want a plan with the basics, Essentials Choice 55 works perfectly.
  • Brand reputation: We value brand reputation, because it indicates consistency, quality and consumer trust. Fortunately, T-Mobile is a respected brand that offers quality phone plans for older adults.

Why Trust Us?

Our team of tech experts tries the latest gadgets and devices for older adults each year. We’ve logged hundreds of hours testing and reviewing phones and phone plans from dozens of national and regional brands. Whenever possible, we recruit older adults to try devices and providers so we can get their feedback too.

Final Thoughts on Pricing and Value for T-Mobile

Compared to rival brands, T-Mobile’s 55+ Unlimited plans are affordable (starting at $50 for one line and dropping to as low as $35 if you purchase two lines). T-Mobile also delivers solid speeds, data allowances and coverage across the board, especially when it comes to 5G.

With unlimited calls, texts and data across their network, T-Mobile’s Unlimited 55+ lineup has a plan for every customer, whether you use your phone once in a while or you don’t leave the house without it. Most importantly, T-Mobile doesn’t dumb down its plans for subscribers over 55. You get real smartphones and real perks, such as 4K HD video, Netflix, Apple TV+, Hulu and data transfer speeds that are as fast as anyone else’s.

That makes T-Mobile Unlimited 55+ plans good options for older Americans seeking sophisticated cellular service — without the extra fees associated with traditional senior plans.
