Our Experience Using OurTime

The OurTime desktop site and the app are both pretty seamless to use. To access the site, OurTime asked who we were looking for (men or women) and our ZIP code. Then we provided our birthday, first name, email, and password, and how we heard about OurTime. All of this is pretty standard. Then we added a few bits of content, photos, and came to this page:

We liked that you can still search locally and send a few likes without a paid subscription. This enables you to see if there are prospects you’re interested in. We enjoyed exploring the site first before deciding if we wanted to join with a paid subscription.

After selecting our membership, it was time to set up our profile.

Setting Up Our Profile

You can set up an account quickly with OurTime. Everything about this site was easy to navigate and implement. We found the whole process of setting up our profiles to be very straightforward.

Filling out our dating profile on OurTime

To set up a profile, we gave our age, the age range of the partner we seek, and the distance range within which we hope to find that special someone. We wrote a short summary paragraph.

Then, we answered nine short questions in the About Me section (marital status, kids, height, education, religion, etc.) We really like the balance of short essays and short answers. Zoosk, for example, only offers short answers, so you don’t get to know much about a person’s background or values. Adding photos came next.

In the More section, we could give more information in the form of short answers about topics like our ethnicity, religion, college, occupation, and pets. Then, we had Topics, Interests, and the What I’m Looking For section. People will therefore have a good sense of who you are. If others fill out all the sections, you’ll also have a good sense about them.

Interestingly scientists found that younger adults were more likely to use words in their profiles associated with work and achievement when seeking romantic relationships. Older adults, on the other hand, used words in their profiles associated with health and positive emotions. Their focus was more on connectedness and relationships with others.

Finding Matches

Once you’ve filled out your profile, you can view matches. In Highlights, OurTime highlights standout members just for you curated daily. You also can do a version of swipe in their Discover carousel section. Here you’ll see a prospect and learn a bit about them. Then you can choose to Skip, Like, or SuperLike (the latter costs extra) them. OurTime emailed us about eight or nine prospects for Today’s Picks almost every day.

In addition to curating these matches, we especially liked that we could manually search for people based on various criteria. For example, if you only seek Buddhists who don’t smoke, you can search specifically for those who match that criteria. You can also search by Activity Date if you prefer to access those members who are most recently active on the site. (SilverSingles, for comparison, is more like a matchmaking service and does not allow you to search on your own.)

Searching for matches on OurTime

The search feature is highly regarded. We could look for matches with multiple filters including age, ZIP code, height (one of our team members is tall and meeting a tall match matters greatly to this person), gender, location, marital status, religion, or ethnicity. Using these filters can improve how relevant the matches are to you and might help you resonate more easily with your match.

OurTime Features

As a free member, you can search profiles and send likes, which is useful. Unfortunately, you cannot see who liked you or read messages you’ve received with the unpaid trial. The free membership enables you to get familiar with the site. Like us, you’ll probably want to send and receive unlimited messages from your matches which you get with a paid subscription. Comparing OurTime memberships options

There are two paid subscription options: Standard and Premium. We feel that the Standard Subscription will be enough for most users. With OurTime’s Standard Subscription, you’ll get to know people through flirts, likes, messages, and optional virtual gifts (which cost extra). With a Standard Subscription, you can also buy Boosts for less than $3 and boost your profile to the top for an hour.

With a Premium Subscription, you can do all of the above as well as:

• View read receipts
• Get a monthly Boost
• Enjoy unlimited Rewinds
• Get a Weekly Super Like

We especially enjoyed the Boost feature. For less than three dollars, you can boost your profile so it’s included in the top results for people who you’d match with for an hour. We noticed more people viewing us and liking us when we used this feature.

OurTime Pricing

The free OurTime option is great for getting familiar with the site and deciding if it’s the right fit for you. Then, if you want to move forward, we’d recommend a paid subscription so that you can unlock conversations, send messages, and access more features. Similar to most other dating sites we’ve reviewed, like eharmony, you’ll receive a discounted monthly rate if you pay for several months of service upfront.

OurTime makes it easy to compare plan options and see how much you_ll save with long-term packages

While they don’t offer a one-month option like Zoosk does, OurTime is like SilverSingles dating services; they want you to give the site a chance for three, six, or 12 months. So, while the monthly rate might be low for these long-term plans, you have to come up with the full amount at the get go.

Prices start at $12.99 (for a 12-month Premium membership) and $15.14 per month (for a six-month Standard membership). While OurTime might seem pricey as you must pay a good amount of money upfront (compared to Zoosk which is $39.95 for three months, let’s say), in the long run, we believe this site offers good value.

Safety and Privacy

We wish OurTime did more to ensure the safety and security for its users. They offer safety tips, and you can block and report inappropriate behavior. But the platform does not use advanced encryption technologies to protect user data or dedicate much support in this area.

For comparison, SilverSingles offers comprehensive safety tips, dedicated support, and a more rigorous profile verification process. The latter includes a human review of profile photos and information to weed out scams and fake accounts.

OurTime doesn’t have identify verification features, like photo verification, either which ensure that users are interacting with real people. For example, dating sites like Bumble and Tinder do offer optional identity verification features.

In general, scam artists ask you for personal information which you should not share. Criminals may try to manipulate you by seeming overly attentive and already enamored with you after just a few communications. It’s too much too fast. This kind of love bombing is seductive. You might let your guard down and trust the crook with information that you should not give. Or they may claim that they’ve experienced a crisis and need money. This is a big red flag and you should never send money. Romance scams are one of the most reported types of scams that target seniors today.

OurTime Reviews and Testimonials

We read many customer reviews to learn more about common themes for user experience. People like ourTime’s exclusive focus on mature singles. Seniors also appreciate the user-friendly platform and how the straightforward features make it accessible for those who are new to online dating. One reviewer notes that she went out on a lot of dates with this site. She said, “Everyone was nice and polite for the most part… My experience was positive.”

The dating site also received many negative reviews on third-party sites with most users troubled by scam artists and bad customer service.

It was surprisingly difficult to find success stories on OurTime.com in the U.S. or on social media. However, we found many happy success stories on the UK site. For example, Andy and Samantha met in March 2024 through OurTime UK and have plans for the future.

How to Cancel an OurTime Subscription

Like most dating sites, memberships paid by credit card automatically renew unless you cancel. If you cancel before your subscription expires, you still retain full membership and can use the site. Here’s how to cancel your membership per OurTime’s website instructions:

1. Click your Settings in the upper-right corner.
2. Click Manage subscription
3. Enter in your password
4. Click Cancel Subscription
5. Answer a few short questions and then click Continue Cancellation
6. You will receive a confirmation number and a date for the last day of your subscription

Mobile browser/App:

1. Tap on profile in the bottom right of your screen
2. Tap on the gear icon located at the top right of the screen
3. Scroll down and locate Manage account
4. Tap on Manage Subscription
5. Enter in your password
6. Tap Cancel Subscription
7. Answer a few short questions and then tap Continue Cancellation
8. You will receive a confirmation number and a date for the last day of your subscription

Comparing OurTime vs. SilverSingles

To help you decide if OurTime is right for you, let’s compare the site to SilverSingles, another popular dating service designed specifically for older adults. Younger people can join both sites, but they cater to seniors.

When comparing the annual price, OurTime is less expensive than SilverSingles. While OurTime doesn’t do quite as much regarding fraud protection as SilverSingles does for its subscribers, based on our hands-on experience, we prefer a site like OurTime for a major reason: the search feature. Final Thoughts on OurTime

OurTime is an easy-to-use, moderately priced dating site for seniors to subscribe to if you want to search yourself and dive right into the dating world. SilverSingles is twice the price, but might be a better option for those seniors who want more security and want to take their time completing an in-depth personality test so that they get matched for long-term romance.

Having used both sites, we found ourselves preferring OurTime. For example, SilverSingles emailed us alerts when we received a smile or a message, but included no photos along with the person’s name. OurTime provided both. Ourtime was easier to navigate, provided easy ways to filter and search, enabled us to view profile information and photos quickly, and communicate with people easily.
