Our Experience Using SilverSingles

Signup Process

It was easy to sign up for a free trial and fairly straightforward to set up a profile with a picture. The website guided us through the process. If we didn’t complete parts of our profiles, SilverSingles prompted us to go back and complete those sections, which was helpful.

Like most dating sites, SilverSingles is designed to bring couples together. We appreciated that you can also filter for gay dating, older women dating, and other criteria. SilverSingles is geared toward seniors. It seemed especially designed for older adults because it was not cluttered and the website was uncomplicated to learn and navigate. We signed up for a Premium membership to try out the service for ourselves. We enjoyed the cordial welcome message.

Taking the Personality Test

After signing up, it was time to take our personality tests. While it takes time to complete the test, we felt the site asked good questions.

Some questions asked us to choose from images and patterns. Other questions asked us about marital status, education, and religion. We were able to rate our answers from “not important” to “extremely important”. For example, we were asked to evaluate how important it was that our partner was tall.

Later questions were open-ended so that we didn’t have to choose an answer, but could supply our own. The unique questionnaire distinguishes SilverSingles from other dating sites which offer more surface-level questions. We liked that SilverSingles uses information from the initial questionnaire to tell them about our values, behavior, and personality. SilverSingles focused on our wants and expectations in prospective partners to better match us.

We also appreciated the way the app considered that their audience is seniors by giving step-by-step instructions on how to use their app. Users can download the app for free through the App Store or Google Play.

Finding Matches

Unlike some dating services that let you search through profiles, SilverSingles curates your matches for you. They send you a batch of matches each day to look through. While we appreciate the curation, we wish you also had the option to search for profiles like you can on other sites we’ve reviewed, such as eharmony.

During the trial membership, it was hard seeing blurred faces in the photos for our matches and not being able to read or respond to messages. You can, however, click on the people and read more from their profiles. We also found it a bit frustrating not to be able to search. Additionally, the free version may include ads.

When we used the free version SilverSingles, we found that you have access to a limited number of daily matches. Once we signed up for a Premium membership, we really appreciated having access to features that enabled us to see who viewed our profiles, and we could send unlimited messages.

Free Basic Membership

With a Basic (free) membership, you get a trial introduction to the site and community. These are the features you can access:

• You can complete the personality test.
• You can upload photos and information about yourself to set up your profile.
• You can also receive matches.
• You can send smiles and likes.

During our trial membership, we didn’t feel we got to know our prospects enough to send smiles or likes to them.

The Premium Membership

The Premium membership gives you full use of the features available on the site. We also learned that SilverSingles favors those with a Premium membership because they want their members to find a serious relationship and take advantage of what their service offers.

With a Premium membership, here are the many things you get on the website, as well as on the iOS and Android apps:

• You will receive three to seven matches daily.
• You can access the “Have You Met?” feature, which gives you up to 20 additional matches every day. These profiles don’t meet at least one of your preferences, so they aren’t added as regular matches. Initiate contact or discard, but you can’t go back.
• You can send and receive unlimited messages.
• You are able to leave comments about other people’s photos and profiles.
• You can also view who visited your profile.
• You have these same Premium features with the app.

Based on our experience using these features, we liked seeing who viewed our profile under the “Visitors” section. We also found the “Have You Met?” feature to be a nice bonus. As we couldn’t search on the site, it expanded our pool of prospects.

SilverSingles Pricing

SilverSingles offers only one type of Premium membership which simplifies things so you only need to decide how long you want to subscribe. Like most dating platforms, you get the best deal for your money with a longer membership. The most inexpensive monthly membership requires a three-month commitment at $44.95 per month or full payment of $134.85 up front. While SilverSingles isn’t cheap, it is a top dating site for older adults. Here’s a breakdown of the different costs:

• 12 months of membership for $24.95 per month
• 6 months of membership for $34.95 per month
• 3 months of membership for $44.95 per month

Compared to other dating sites we’ve reviewed, it’s reasonably priced. It’s not as cheap as Zoosk or as expensive as eharmony.

Safety and Privacy

SilverSingles want their senior members to feel safe, and they take privacy and security seriously. They use SSL Encryption to safeguard personal information, and they don’t share information with other companies. SilverSingles also focuses on preventing and eliminating any scamming and catfishing on the site. They claim to have staff check and verify each new member profile daily to weed out scammers. They also profess to review inactive profiles to keep profiles up-to-date. All are actions taken to rid the site of unsavory types and rogue users.

They offer a dating safety guide to members that includes tips about meeting in safe spaces, protecting your personal information, being aware of those asking for money, and never complying with these requests. They encourage users to submit information about any members who might be dangerous.

SilverSingles Reviews and Testimonials

TrustPilot gave SilverSingles only 2.4 stars. Many complained that the site recommended people who were too far away and not within the requested mileage parameters. Some also were not happy about the fake profiles and scammers on the site.

Yet, the SilverSingles Facebook page and website have success stories featuring smiling couples, so clearly the dating site works for some. We found some success stories on their social media as well. We also found a handful on the SilverSingles web page from recent years.

In one example, Kathy said she met Kelly when her 20-year-old granddaughter signed her up and picked a few promising profiles. Kathy said, “I think we fell for each other over sushi! It’s been three months now, and we are amazingly happy.” We did wonder where the other happy success stories were from other years and would have enjoyed seeing more than ten success stories.

SilverSingles vs. Other Dating Apps for Older Adults

Wondering how SilverSingles compares to other dating apps? Let’s take a look. SilverSingles and OurTime are geared for older adults, which is a plus. A much smaller percentage of eharmony’s members are 55 and older, for example, so the pool is smaller. One of the most inexpensive sites to use for senior dating is Zoosk, with SilverSingles and OurTime charging a moderate price, and eharmony being the most expensive. SilverSingles is unique, as it’s the only site we reviewed that doesn’t allow you to search for profiles yourself, which we found to be somewhat of a drawback.

Final Thoughts on SilverSingles

The SilverSingles Basic free plan may be worth trying for a day or two. We suggest then transitioning to the Premium membership which unlocks features. We like that this site is senior-focused (although those under 50 can sign up). The SilverSingles Premium membership has a lot of benefits. It gives you the ability to flesh out your profile, review your matches, and start communicating with other like-minded people by sending and receiving messages.

Although matches might not live as close as you specify, SilverSingles uses a well-respected personality-based matching process. Unlike most sites, they send daily matches to you. SilverSingles doesn’t offer you a traditional search tool as they are curating matches for you, which we found a bit frustrating.

If you don’t want to scroll and search on dating sites, SilverSingles might be a good dating platform for you, as they play matchmakers. They are also dedicated to security, and if you contact them about a scam-related problem, they respond quickly.
