Denny’s is a consistent and reliable choice for older adults who appreciate predictability in addition to tasty food and low prices. The restaurant chain doesn’t offer a senior discount (meaning, a percentage off your total bill). However, the chain’s 55+ menu offers several satisfying meal options at much lower prices. Keep reading to learn what Denny’s 55+ menu offers older adults and about other discounts and perks that can help you save.

Denny’s 55+ Menu for Older Adults

Ninety-six percent of Denny’s restaurants are franchised,1 meaning they have individual owners. But our research suggests that its 55+ menu items and prices are fairly consistent nationwide. So, older adults are likely to find the same dishes on the 55+ menu no matter which location they visit.

Details can vary, so it might be a good idea to check first — by calling beforehand or asking your host or server when you arrive at the restaurant — to confirm there is a 55+ menu at the particular location. It also might be wise to check whether other promotions, such as kids eating free on a certain day, are honored by a particular franchise owner.

Again, although Denny’s doesn’t offer senior discounts on its entire menu, the 55+ menu offers some great savings. For example, the 55+ two-egg omelette with caramelized onions, bacon, and cheddar cheese, hash browns, and choice of bread starts at $8.99 at many locations. On the regular menu, the very similar Ultimate Omelette, which comes with three eggs and sausage instead of bacon, currently starts at $16.59.

Also note that prices at Denny’s locations tend to vary slightly, likely reflecting the cost of living. At a Denny’s in San Diego, for example, the 55+ Omelette starts at $9.98, but it starts at $8.99 at Denny’s restaurants in Jacksonville, Florida, and Louisville, Kentucky. (The Ultimate Omelette on the regular menu starts at $14.50 in these locations.)

Here are some of the current items that we found on Denny’s 55+ menu:

  • Wild Alaska salmon filet with a side and dinner bread
  • Grilled cheese sandwich and soup
  • Country-fried steak
  • One egg, one strip of bacon or sausage link, hash browns, and choice of bread

Denny’s Promotions

Although not specifically for seniors, Denny’s franchises often run promotional deals that can be great ways to save — no matter your age. For example, the All Day Diner Deals Value Menu includes an all-you-can-eat pancakes meal or cheeseburger and fries for a little over $9. Also part of the All Day Diner Deal promotion is scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, two bacon strips, two sausage links, and buttermilk pancakes for $8. The Everyday Value Slam breakfast starts at just $6.

Kids Eat Free

Bringing the grandkids to lunch? Check with your local Denny’s location to find out whether it participates in the Kids Eat Free program, as participation and the days kids eat for free can vary. For example, in Louisville, Kentucky, kids eat free from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, but other franchise owners might pick another day to offer this promotion.

You can get up to two kids’ entrées for free (one free entrée per kid) with an adult entrée purchase of $6 or more. This offer applies for dining-in only and not for online orders.

Military Discounts

There is no company-wide mandate for a military or veterans discount at Denny’s restaurants. But Denny’s notes in a press release that they have a longstanding Veterans Day special for active and retired military personnel with a valid military ID or DD 214. Eligible veterans and members of the military can get a free Original Grand Slam for a certain number of hours if they dine in on Veterans Day at participating locations.

It’s possible that your local Denny’s restaurant might choose to offer a military discount of 10 or 20 percent off your bill, but don’t expect one. But it never hurts to ask!
