Walmart doesn’t offer a specific discount for seniors or veterans, but there are still many ways to save while shopping at this big-box retailer in person or online.

Walmart does have tough-to-beat everyday prices and a free app that makes shopping and filling prescriptions easier for seniors avoiding or unable to visit in store. The app also provides instant alerts about sales or deals. Joining Walmart+ offers more ways to save, with free grocery delivery and other money-saving perks. Here’s more about how seniors can find the best deals at Walmart.

Walmart doesn't have a senior discount, but there are plenty of other ways to save

Saving with the Walmart App

You can download the free Walmart mobile app on your smartphone to get alerts on savings and shop for delivery items. Right now, you can get $10 off your first three grocery orders of $50 or more. (See Walmart for fees and any restrictions.) You can also get same-day or express delivery (express delivery is available with an additional fee).

The Walmart app is also handy when you shop in person. With the app, you can:

  • Look up an item to quickly find where it is in the store
  • Instantly check the price with the barcode scanner
  • Conveniently pay for goods with Walmart Pay

You can also manage household and health needs easily with other features of the Walmart app, such as:

  • Curbside pickup, where Walmart employees bring your items purchased via the app out to your car and load them for you
  • Automatic prescription refills and transfers
  • Subscriptions to reorder frequently purchased items, so you never run out

Walmarts are pretty big stores, typically around 182,000 square feet. We like that the app can help get older adults in and out faster, with less time spent searching for items or waiting at checkout.

The Walmart app also makes it easy to identify items you can earn Walmart Cash by purchasing. Walmart Cash can be used to make future purchases, or you can get cash back. (Click here to learn more.) These manufacturer offers will show up in your app with a “Get Walmart Cash” button.

Saving with Walmart.com Flash Deals and Rollbacks

When you visit Walmart.com, click on the “Deals” tab on the bar near the top of the page. From the Deals page, you’ll find current “Flash Deals” and price “Rollbacks” discount buttons.

Every week, Walmart features flash sales of up to 65 percent off merchandise across departments. It’s worth checking for hefty price drops on items you might have had your eye on.

When we looked, we found deals such as $170 off a five-piece outdoor furniture set, more than $100 off a juicer, $35 off a bathroom towel warmer, and $85 off the price of a personal massage gun.

Walmart Rollback deals also offer savings on a wide range of merchandise. When we checked, we found $30 off the price of a laptop computer, $31 off an air conditioner, and $50 off a popular ice cream maker.
